To those of you who made your Valentines plans well ahead of time with your reservations already made and flowers ordered, we applaud you. But for those of you who are sitting at your desk frantically searching “what to do on Valentine’s Day in Buffalo”, we’ve got your back.
Whether you’re seeing someone or single, want to surprise your s.o., or let them in on your plans, here are some suggestions sure to make this year memorable.
1. Give A Valentine’s Day Surprise
Who says you have to celebrate Valentine’s Day on the 14th? Surprise your Valentine on Sunday (Feb. 11) with a workshop that will take chocolates to the next level. Chocolate Maker Dan Sundell will lead a discussion, and more importantly tasting, of a variety of single-origin dark and milk chocolate at 100 Acres: The Kitchens at Hotel Henry.
All the chocolates are crafted by Dark Forest Chocolate Makers in Lancaster. This small company makes chocolates with a big emphasis on quality. As Western New York’s first “bean-to-bar” chocolate maker, Dark Forest uses organic cacao beans, organic sugar and all natural ingredients to craft vegan, soy and nut free chocolate.
If you’re still not convinced, don’t take our word for it – look at their record. Just last year they won four silver medals at the International Chocolate Awards, Americas Division, a silver and bronze Academy of Chocolate award and this year, Dark Forest was a finalist at the Good Food Awards.
Just $11 gets you a ticket unlocks this delicious session of chocolaty knowledge. Sign us up!
2. Book A Beer Pairing Dinner
"Soup from Rusty Nickel’s 2017 Valentine’s Day dinner"
Enjoy gourmet dishes paired by each brewery’s experts with beers to bring out flavor profiles that will make your tastebuds thank you.
Love breweries, but want to choose your own beer? Thin Man Brewery has a pre fix dinner for two so you can choose your own food – just don’t forget to call ahead!
3. Love the Single Life
Who needs a Valentine when you can party with your friends? Shenannigans Irish Pub is hosting a Valentine’s Day Singles Party complete with karaoke, speed dating and drink specials. Maybe you’ll find yourself a special someone, or, maybe you’ll just have a great night out with friends who love the single life as much as you.
4. Get Some Drinks
Head over to Mr. Goodbar for their monthly Good Beer Club event. Each month, the craft beer bar holds an event sampling some beer. This month there will be 10 beers to sample, soup and cupcakes.
For a family-friendly atmosphere, check out Lumagination: Valentine’s Day and Happy Hour at the Botanical Gardens. Happy hour guests will enjoy food and drinks from Salvatore’s Italian Gardens before the light show. If you want something to do with your family, head straight to the show and get ready for an event that will excite and entertain people of all ages!
5. Take a class
If you spend your time scrolling through your Facebook or Instagram feed drooling over videos of people decorating cupcakes or cookies, then we’ve found the perfect class for you.
On Sunday, Feb. 10, Fairy Cakes Cupcakery is going to teach you how to make beautiful confections of your own with a Valentine’s Day Cupcake and cookie decorating class. Don’t worry if you’re not a master baker, this class will teach you how to frost cupcakes, create festive fondant pieces and decorate cutout cookies like a pro.
Each $30 ticket gets you four cupcakes, four cookies and a drink during class. So you can eat them that day, or save them to surprise your honey with on Wednesday.
